Lady Augusta Gregory

Lady Augusta Gregory was a wealthy aristocrat who admired the arts. She believed that W. B. Yeats was very talented, and so she did whatever she could in order to help him create. Specifically for this volume of poetry, Yeats stayed at her estate, Coole Park, which was located near the seven woods. Yeats used these woods for inspiration.

Furthermore, Augusta Gregory was an inspiration for this volume and several poems after this work. She was Yeats' idea of the ideal aristocrat. A kind person who takes care of those working on her estate and supports the arts without worrying about money. She had sprezzatura which is a way of living effortlessly.

The support from Augusta Gregory was essential for Yeats' success while he wrote this volume and every volume after. She was a friend, supporter, and collaborator for Yeats throughout his life.
